Christmas Traditions-Take 1

Christmas Traditions-Take 1

It’s the most wonderful time of the year!  If you’ve been reading my blog for any amount of time now, you know that I am VERY close to my family and as a family unit, we have several traditions that we cherish and look forward to every year.  As Christmas fast approaches, I will try to share most of them with you, so you can experience some of our fun with us.

Card Games

As I have mentioned before, my family loves card games and we spend quite a bit of time playing golf, rook, souse, and phase 10 together at the kitchen table and it’s during some of these card games that some of our most favorite funny sayings, memories, and moments have taken place.  My mother’s kitchen is one of those magical places that just screams “home” to me and we always have coffee and snacks while we play (unless it’s souse and then it’s all jewelry off and no food or drinks on the table because you’d be wearing it before the hand was over) so it’s just cozy and fabulous!

Movies

I have a list of Christmas movies that I MUST watch every year including National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation, White Christmas, and Home Alone just to name a few.  We sometimes watch Lampoon’s together as family after our Thanksgiving meal, which is always fun, or I can have these movies on while I wrap presents or spend a quiet night at home with my boys.

The Living Christmas Tree

Mayfield Living Christmas Tree

I already mentioned this a week ago or so, but the Living Christmas Tree is something that my mom and I participate every year and I always receive such a magnificent blessing from it.  It is in fact a huge Christmas tree that will hold around 80 or so people and there is singing, a little drama, narration, etc. beginning on a Wednesday night with a production every night through the following Sunday.  Since we had some terrible weather this year, we actually had to cancel the last three nights but were able to make two of them up this past weekend, which was wonderful!

Those are my first three traditions that I cherish every year…What are some of yours?

  6. We played a lot of cards after our Thanksgiving dinner with some friends, so I’m hoping that’ll carry on to Christmas and we can start a new tradition! One tradition we have is that on Christmas morning my dad goes out first to turn on all the Christmas lights before we see anything. Also, he makes his Grandma’s old recipe for cinnamon rolls, and we eat those Christmas morning!
